NESS' Privacy Statement
Your rights to privacy
The NESS Trustee has prepared this statement to inform members how it protects the privacy of their personal information.
The Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 (the Act) regulates the way NESS and its service providers, handle personal information, including sensitive information such as medical details. The Act contains 10 National Privacy Principles that regulate, among other things, how organisations collect, store and protect personal information. It specifies how organisations should use and share personal information with other organisations. The National Privacy Principles form part of all NESS' procedures and policies and the way members' accounts are administered.
What personal information will NESS keep about me?
NESS collects personal information from members to enable it to administer their accounts. The personal information collected includes your name, address, date of birth, telephone number, nominated beneficiaries and tax file number.
NESS also collects personal medical information when members apply to increase their insurances.
Why does NESS need my personal information?
The personal information NESS collects, is used to establish your NESS membership account, to process contributions to your account, to correspond with you and to provide you with superannuation benefits.
If you choose not to provide your personal information, it may mean that we will not be able to provide some NESS benefits and options to you. Information about you is also provided to other organisations that NESS uses to provide its services. Examples of these are:
Can I see the personal information NESS has about me?
Under the National Privacy Principles, you have a right to see your information to ensure that it is correct. Please contact NESS to ask for your personal details. The Act, in certain situations, limits or denies access to certain information. If this applies to you, NESS will inform you when you ask for your information.
